About us

At Punctuated Law Designs, we create unique art prints, clothing, and accessories that celebrate the law and the craft of legal writing. Our products are go-to gifts for lawyers, law students, law professors, and law enthusiasts—the perfect present for law school graduation, passing the bar exam, or decorating your new law office.

Punctuated Law Designs was founded by Joe Fore, a law professor at the University of Virginia, in 2019. He was working on a project that was analyzing judges’ writing style. Using a computer algorithm, Joe could remove all of the words from a judicial opinion, leaving just the punctuation marks. This provided a totally new way to visualize legal writing. It also looked cool.

So Joe started making posters out of these documents and giving them out to fellow lawyers and law professors. Eventually, the project grew from a small hobby into a small business. Today, Punctuated Law prints hang in law offices across the country. And while computer scripts do much of the up-front work, each image takes hours of work, by hand, to get it just right. We also want to address unmet legal needs. That's why, from Day 1, $2 from every order has gone to support law-related non-profit organizations.

Our designs celebrate iconic Supreme Court cases, like Brown vs. Board of Education, Obergefell v. Hodges, Loving v. Virginia, and Gideon v. Wainwright. We also feature America’s Founding Documents: The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, and The Bill of Rights. And we can create custom designs, which allow you to commemorate legal moments that are special to you.
